He then joined the Army where he completed a medical internship at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio TX, flight training (helicopter), and flight surgeon training at Fort Rucker, AL. After working as a flight surgeon and emergency room physician for two years, he returned to San Antonio to complete an orthopedic surgery residency. He spent his last two years in the Army as chief of Orthopedics at Stuttgart, Germany. After returning to the states, Dr. Emery again returned to San Antonio where he completed a Spine Surgery Fellowship in 1990 and moved to Cody, WY with his wife, Bonnie, and children Michael, and Alison.

After 11 moves in 10 years, Dr. Emery and his wife Bonnie were ready to settle down. Cody was the first place visited, and after one look at Cody, he ended his job search. In 1990, Dr. Emery was the only Spine Fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon in Wyoming.

Dr. Emery has been Board Certified since 1989. He has served on the Wyoming Medical Commission since its creation in 1990 and has been appointed by 4 successive governors to help with medical issues faced by Workers' Compensation.

Dr. Emery specializes in general orthopedic surgery, spine disorders, arthroscopic surgery, and trauma.

He enjoys hunting, fishing, martial arts, and being a grandpa to his two granddaughters.
